SPIRIT OF UNITY
X EMPHASISED IN ALLIED MESSAGES
RUGBY, November 6
President Roosevelt, in a message to President Kalinin, said: “The anniversary of the founding of the U.S.S.R. falls at a time when the freedom-loving peoples everywhere are dealing fateful blows against the .enemy. On the battlefield, by the growth of co-operation and with a single-minded purpose, the members of the United Nations are driving the forces dTaggression toward irreparable defeat. To the Red Army and the people of the Soviet Union belong eternal glory for their example of sacrifice to all the forces engaged in the common struggle. In the spirit of unity, made even more evident in the agreements recently concluded in Moscow, and with the strength derived from mutual understanding, the United Nations will overthrow the aggressors and establish and maintain enduring peace.” The new United States Ambassador to Moscow, Mr Averell Harriman, in a statement broadcast from the Moscow radio, expressed his deep satisfaction that agreement had been reached on so many points in such a short period at the Moscow conference. Of the postwar problems, Mr Harriman said that a question which deserved the greatest attention was the help the United States could render the Soviet' in the restoration of the devastated areas and liquidation of the war damage.
Mr Eden, in a message to M. Molotov from Cairo, said: “I am convinced that the work we have carried out in Moscow will make a durable friendship and comradeship between our countries for many centuries.” The Turkish Foreign Minister, M. iMenemenjoglu, lunched today with Mr Eden at the British Embassy in Cairo. Also present were the Turkish Minister to Egypt, the British Minister of State, Mr Casey, the British Ambassador, and senior members of the fighting services.
