TRIBAL COMMITTEE i EUCHRE PARTY AND DANCE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Tribal Committee held a euchre party and dance in the local hall recently. .There was a large attendance. The prizes at euchre were won by Mrs Riwai and Mr Ruka. Competition prizes were won by Messrs H. Robinson and L. Watson. Te Maari’s Band provided the dance music and Messrs Tikao and Herangi were the'M’sC. School Committee. The School Committee held its monthly meeting on Thursday evening, there being present: Messrs Mclntosh, Sutton, Duggan, Riwai and Carter. A letter was received from the Wellington Education Board with reference to the clinic building. It was decided to leave the matter over till after the war. It was resolved to transport the children and their exhibits to Martinborough on December 1 for the purpose of taking part in the calf and lamb competitions for schools. Wet Months. The months of September and October were the wettest experienced in this district for years. The fall for 54 days was 25 inches. Personal Items. Mrs Mclntosh is staying with her daughter, Mrs W. O’Neil' Rongokokako. The health of Mr E. Taurau, Dannevirke, is causing his relatives concern. Among the men who recently returned to New Zealand from England is Sapper Ray Henson, whose parents resided in this district for a lengthy period. Pilot Officer Martin Hume, a member of a well known local family, has been appointed a squadron leader and placed in charge of a Spitfire base in England.

A farewell social gathering was tendered Private Frank Jennings on Wednesday. The attendance was large and the guest was presented with a wallet by Mr F. Lovegrove on behalf of the residents. A competition was won by Miss F. Tilson, while a Monte Carlo dance was’ won by Miss Katore and partner. Mr S. Mclntosh was M.C. Seaman Dick Te Whaiti is spending a few days in the Lower Hutt. Messrs John Sutton and Russell Lovegrove, two popular young men of this district, will shortly leave to take up Air Force duties. Mr R. Nelson who has been on a visit to Pirinoa, has returned to Wellington.
