CARTERTON

CARRINGTON RAINFALL FIGURES FOR OCTOBER. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr J. .A. Roberts, of Carrington, reports that the rainfall in October was 4.6.7 inches. There were 13 wet days. The heaviest .fall was 1.27 inches on October 3. In October, 1942, over 5 inches were registered. OBITUARY MR R. G. SOWMAN. The death occurred suddenly at 4 o'clock this morning of Mr Roy George Sowman at the residence of his father-in-law, Mr V. L. Robinson, Rhodes Street, Carterton. The late Mr Sowman was with his wife and child spending his annual leave in Carterton, and was to have returned to his home at Nelson on Monday. He was employed as manager of Woolworths in Nelson. He was held in high esteem, by his many friends in the Wairarapa, where ho had. resided before going to Nelson. At one time he was employed at the Greytdwn cheese factory. The funeral will take place tomorrow, leaving for the Clareville Cemetery after a service commencing at 2 p.m. Boy Injured. A schoolboy, John Wilson, residing in Rhodes Street, Carterton, met with an unfortunate accident on Wednesday night. He jumped from a fence to the footpath in the street and fractured a bone in one of his ankles. Dr. Morton attended to his injury after which he was removed to the Masterton Hospital for treatment. Bowling Club Dance, Final arrangements for the Carterton Bowling Club’s dance to be held in the State Theatre tomorrow night, have been completed and everything is ready for patrons to spend an enjoyable time. Bobby Calf Pool. The final collection of bobby calves in all the .Wairarapa districts will close on Tuesday next. The House of Israel.
