RESOLUTE ATTACK
ON NAZI GOVERNOR-GENERAL OF POLAND ARMOURED TRAIN AMBUSHED An inspection journey undertaken recently by Frank, the Nazi GovernorGeneral of Poland, was successfully interrupted by the Polish resistance movement. The incident was described in detail in a Polish underground paper, which reached London. Frank was on his way to Warsaw at night in a special armoured train, with a strong escort. For security’s sake the train was preceded by a pilot locomotive, which was derailed, because members of the underground organisation had torn up the track. As the “accident” occurred a hail of fire burst over the coach in which Frank was travelling. His escort returned the fire and a battle ensued in the darkness. Eventually Frank was forced to return to Cracow by road. A few days later Frank arrived in Warsaw by plane. The streets.were lined with a strong cordon of S.S. men with fixed bayonets and his car was escorted by police cars with machine-guns levelled at house windows, and numerous motor cyclists with revolvers drawn. The convoy travelled through the streets of Warsaw at great speed. Frank’s Visit had been kept strictly secret.
