BRITAIN’S LATEST CIVIL AIRCRAFT. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, November 3. The Air Ministry announces that Britain’s latest civil aircraft, which it is hoped will play a big part in postwar civil aviation, is the Avro York. It is a transport version of the Lancaster bomber, and is a high-wing fourengine monoplane with a wing-span of 102 ft. and an overall length of 78ft. It is powered by Rolls-Royce Merlin engines, which are liquid-cooled. It is designed specially for passenger or freight-carrying, and may be used both for short-haul traffic or as a long-distance aircraft. When employed on short range it can carry more than 50 passengers.
