MOVING EAST
BRITISH AND AMERICAN CAPITAL SHIPS MEDITERRANEAN TO INDIAN OCEANS. ADMIRAL HALSEY ON OUTLOOK. (By Telegraph—Press- Association—Copyright) LONDON, November 3. The German overseas news agency, quoting a Tokio source, says that four or five British and American battleships, three or four aircraftcarriers, seven or eight cruise ers and more than 10 destroyers have been transferred within the past few weeks from the Mediterranean to the Indian Ocean. Japanese circles state that the Allies are preparing for landings on the Burmese coast and also on the Andamans and Nicobar Island and perhaps on Sumatra! "We are ready to meet any enemy reaction, and the sooner his fleet elects to slug it out the sooner we well march through Tokio,” said Admiral Halsey at a Press conference at South Pacific headquarters. The Bougainville landing, he said, had cost the American 50 dead and 200 wounded. The Japanese - offered determined opposition, but the ground action was less intense than at Munda. “This is a flexing springboard for longer jumps ahead,” said the admiral.
