BURMA COMMAND

APPOINTMENT OF GENERAL MAYNE. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.0 a.m.) RUGBY, November 4. Lieutenant-General A. G. O. .M. Mayne has been appointed G.O.C. in C Eastern Command, and as such will be responsible for the operations on the Burma frontier. General Mayne received the surrender of the Duke of Aosta, with 7,000 troops, at Amba Alagi in May, 1941, which virtually brought the Abyssinian campaign to an end.
