Certificates of merit are to be issued to group contributors of national savings. The organiser of the Masterton area will shortly interview employers to ascertain the percentage of employees contributing to the scheme. A certificate of merit will be issued to those who have 80 per cent or over and those with 100 per cent of their employees contributing will receive a special certificate. Social Afternoon. The Masterton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers' Union held a most successful social afternoon in the Rest Rooms, yesterday. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames C. H. McKenzie, Holdsworth and E. J. Wright, Mrs F. Hewitt organised a humorous competition which was won by Mrs Robert Miller. Items in an enjoyable programme were contributed by Mesdames Speight, Ogilvie and R. Miller.

Workmen’s Friend Building Society. The monthly meeting of the directors of the Workmen’s Friend No. 2 Building Society was held last night, Mi’ Wm. Kemp presiding, there being also present: Messrs A. V. Dixon, T. B. Braggins,' E. J. Brown, E. H. Morton, C W. Walker, H. L. Price and S. M. Gilding. An .apology was received from Mr A. E. Hubbard. Accounts amounting to £4 Is 9d were passed for payment. The security offered by a shareholder for a recent appropriation of £3OO was approved of by the directors. •It was resolved that the sum of £5OO he offered for appropriation by sale at the December meeting of the society.
