SALE AT ADDINGTON SHARP DROP IN BEEF VALUES (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, November 3. A feature of the Addington sale today was a sharp drop in beef values ranging from £2 10s a head for a few small prime steers to £5 for heavyweights. In store sheep the price for woolly ewe hoggets was well up to recent standards, though there was not the same keenness as of late. Top price was 34s 6d. Several pens of shorn wether hoggets sold well from 25s to 25s 6d. Ewes and lambs were of medium quality, the best price being 21s all counted. The sale of fat sheep dragged somewhat in the early stages, but there was a gradual improvement and some of the best prices s of the sale were recorded in the final offerings. The highest figure for woolly wethers was 68s Id. With the advent of warmer weather shorn sheep were eagerly sought after, ewes making up-to 41s Id and wethers up to 44s 7d. In fat cattle, the drop in values was the most pronounced for some years. Best beef ranged from 60s to 65s per 1001 b, with a few pens to 695. Competition was keen for all classes of porkers, with prices slightly easier for choppers. There was a sound tone in the bacon section with a firming tendency. The average price per lb. was 8d to 81d. MASTERTON SALE. FAT SHEEP IN DEMAND. The Wairarapa Live Stock Auctioneers report as follows on their Masterton sale yesterday:—The attendance , was fair. A small entry of fat sheep met with good competition. Ewes with lambs,at foot sold at increased values and in all sections, a total clearance being made. Values at auction were as follow: — Fat sheep: Woolly wethers, 355, 40s; shorn wethers, 23s 3d, 25s 6d, 265, 28s 9d; w.w. hoggets, 24s 6d, 28s; b.f. hoggets, 25s 9d; shorn maiden ewes, 275; woolly ewes, 245. Store sheep: Woolly 4-th. wethers, 31s 3d; empty mixed aged ewes, 235; b.f. hoggets, 23s 9d; flock Southdown ewes and lambs, 21s all counted; crossbred ewes and lambs, 13s Id, 14s Bd, 16s and 18s 9d all counted. CLEARING SALE. PRICES AT MARTINBOROUGH. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Co., Ltd., report as follows on Mr W. E. Cuff’s clearing sale at Martinborough on Monday:—The cows, all in milk, came forward in excellent condition, and met with very keen competition to make the good average of £l2 12s. Sundries offered sold at late rates. Values received were: —Live stock: Dairy cows in milk, £l5 10s, £l4, £137 £l2, £ll 10s; yearling heifers, £5; calves, 345; pigs (sow), £4 ss; light porkers, £2 6s; horse, £8 10s. Sundries: Chevrolet l-ton truck, £25;: single furrow plough, £3; manure distributor, £l2; set discs, £2l; other sundries late rates.
