HADRIAN’S WALL

PRESERVATION OF ROMAN REMAINS.

Hadrian’s Wall, one of England’s most important Roman remains, is to be preserved, says the London Daily Telegraph’s correspondent at New-castle-on-Tyne. Complaints were made that the wall was collapsing in places through subsidence caused by stone quarrying. Ministry of Works officials visited the scene—asection of the wall which runs along the high ridge above Cawfields Quarry, near Haltwhistle, Northumberland —and made a report. Action followed. The Ministry has been negotiating with the quarrying -interests for some time, and it is thought the matter will be satisfactorily 1 settled very soon.
