BOWLING
MASTERTON CLUB VETERANS’ CHALLENGE MATCH. NOTES BY “THE BOWLER.” Yesterday afternoon, on the Masterton Club’s green, the first challenge match of this season was played between the veteran bowlers of the Park and Master ton clubs for the badges pre- . sented by the late Mr Charles Ewington. The holders were the Masterton Club, represented by J. Maxwell, Doughty, F. Percy and E. W. Nielsen (s), and the challengers were the Park Club, C. Moore, E. Brown, Kilgour and J. Shearer (s). After a most enjoyable < game the holders were victorious by 9 - points. The details of the match are as follow:—On the sixth head the scores were: Masterton 4, Park 3, and on the ninth head, there was only a difference of 1 point in favour of Masterton. Masterton was leading by 4 points on the twelfth head, but Park had reduced this lead to 2 points on the fifteenth head. On the eighteenth head the scoreboard showed: Masterton 18, Park 15, but in the remaining three heads. Park failed to score, while Masterton put on 6 points, making the final result: Masterton 24, Park 15. The'green was in good order, but naturally on the slow side after the recent rain. Prior to the -commencement of the match, Mr F. Percy, on behalf of the Masterton Club, extended a hearty welcome to the Park veterans, and Mr J. Shearer, on behalf of the Park Club, thanked the Masterton Club "for its sincere and hearty welcome..
