LAND SALES ACT
MEMBERS OF COMMITTEES. REMUNERATION & EXPENSES. A considerable amount of confusion exists as to the remuneration paid to members of Lands Sales committees set up under the Servicemen’s Settlement and Land Sales Act. The position is that Land Sales committees, of which there are 15 at present, are quite distinct and separate from the Land Sales Court. The remuneration of the members of the Land Sales committees is as follow: The chairman receives £3 3s pei' day or part of a day and each member of the committee £2 12s 6d per day or psrt of a day. Travelling expenses are payable to committee members who do not reside in the town where the committee meets. If a member is away from his place of residence for a continuous period of 24 hours or longer, he will be paid a travelling allowance of 25s per day or part of a day, plus locomotion expenses. If he is absent from his residence for a continuous period of less than 24 hours, leaving and returning on the same day, he will be paid reasonable out-of-pocket expenses, not greater than he would be entitled to receive for an absence of 24 hours. The duties of the Lands Sales Court are. to deal with appeals from the Lands Sales Committees and with all compensation claims. The judge of the Court receives £2060 a year and the two members of the court £BOO a year each.
