GIRL GUIDES ANNUAL MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Girl Guides was held at the residence of Mrs J. F. Thompson, Kuratawhiti Street, yesterday afternoon, Mrs J. F. Thompson (president) was in the chair. Appreciation was expressed of the annual reports which were read by Mesdames G. R. Jury (Guides) and M? Greathead (Brownies). The election of offices resulted as follows: —President, Mrs J. F. Thompson; secretary, Mrs G. R. Jury (temporary), Miss B. Bull is to be asked to fill .the position; . committee, last year’s members re-elected. The resignation of the secretary, Mrs Wright, was accepted with regret. It was decided that a small.<gift be forwarded to her. A meeting of the general committee was -subsequently held. The annual association meeting is to be held on November 17, when the speaker will be Mrs Higgs, of Featherston. A children’s hard-up party is to be held on November 12. Members of the committee were asked to co-oper-ate. ' Afternoon tea was served by Mrs Thompson, who was thanked for the use of her room. Bowling Notes. The Greytown Bowling Club will not hold an official opening day this season, but the green will be open for play on Saturday afternoon. Mr Carl Larsen has donated a cup for the player who obtains the highest aggregate in the progressive competition, played over the season. The committee has drawn up special conditions and it is anticipated that there will be keen competition for the trophy. The Stan Brice Shield will be awarded to- the same competition. Only those with a club handicap of 5 or over will be eligible for this. At the committee meeting held last night a vote of sympathy was passed to the relatives of the late Mr J. F. Wallis. All Nations’ Fair, The St. Luke’s Ladies’ Guild All Nations’ Fair which will take place on Friday will conclude with a concert programme under the direction of Mrs S. C. Shedden. Despite the butter, tea and sugar rationing, the cake stall promises to be well stocked. ( Meeting Cancelled, Owing to another meeting being held on Thursday, November 11, the meeting arranged by the Red Cross Society has been cancelled and will now be held on Friday, November 12, at 3.30 p.m. in the Red Cross Society’s rooms. Personal Items. 1 Mrs C. W. Martin, Wellington, who has been the guest of Mrs J. Robb, has returned home. Mr and Mrs G. M. Risk, of Timaru, are the guests of Mr and Mrs H. Farley, West Street. TOWN HALL “THE BLACK SHEEP OF • WHITEHALL.”
Tomorrow night there will be presented the outstanding comedy, “The Black Sheep of Whitehall,” featuring Will Hay. There will also be shown “The Mayor of 44th Street,” an excellent drama with George Murphy in the leading role.
