LIBERATION PROMISED
ANNEXATION OF AUSTRIA CONSIDERED VOID POLITICAL & ECONOMIC SECURITY PROBLEMS TO BE FACED (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.5 a.m.) RUGBY, November 1. ■ Problems of political and economic security which Austria has in common with neighbouring States are recognised in the Moscow declaration regarding that country. The declaration summons Austrians to contribute to their own liberation. It states that the British, Soviet and United States Governments agreed that Austria, the first free country to fall a victim of Nazi aggression, shall be lib-
erated from German domination. They regard annexation imposed upon Austria by the Germans as void. They conisder themselves in no way bound by any changes effected in Austria since March, 1938. They declare that they wish to see re-established a free and ■■ independent Austria and thereby open the way for the Austrian people themselves, as well as those of neighbouring States which will be faced with similar problems, to find that political and economic security which is the only basis of lasting peace. Austria is reminded, however, of her responsibility, which she cannot evade, for participation in the war on the side of Hitlerite Germany and in the final settlement account will inevitably be taken of her contribution to her liberation.
