OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS

DOG NUISANCE (To the Editor.) Sir,—The Carterton authorities recently took action regarding unleashed dogs wandering, in the shopping area in particular, and by their filthy habits tending to breed disease as far as dor mestic commodities at shop doois aie concerned. Under a Health Act edict cards are displayed in shop windows warning dog-owners to keep the animals from following them into shop precincts, but with what result has not yet been learned. As far as this borough is concerned, the dog nuisance at one time seemed to have been well tackled as far as the leashing of them is concerned. However, only this morning, and not for the first time, one' big collarless black dog, long enjoying the “freedom of the city,” dirtied the doorway of a local jeweller’s premises particularly noted for its cleanly appearance in every way. Unpleasant work was entailed cleaning the shop entrance. How much longer is this matter to be neglected? Failing a Chamber of Commerce, whose duty is it—that of the shopkeepers, the Borough Council or Health Department —to make a stand against an otherwise clean town being so flagrantly disgraced in sight of shoppers one and all?— Yours, etc., “NON-VEGETARIAN.” Masterton, October 29.
