BOROUGH AFFAIRS
CARTERTON COUNCIL SUPPLEMENTARY SEWERAGE SYSTEM. TO BE DEALT WITH AT NEXT MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Mayor, Mr D. L. Taverner, presided at the monthly meeting of. the Carterton Borough Council last night. There were also present: Crs. O. W. Wolters, H. E. Jackson, W. R. Harry, C. J DeLacey, H. Mortenson and W. A. Hart. Apologies for absence were received from Crs. E. McKenzie, C. E. Stevens and L. M. Clark. The treasurer reported a credit balance of £895 15s 8d in the district fund account, and £486 18s 5d in the gasworks account. The Minister of Railways wrote in connection with land for a street connecting Belvedere and Wheatstone streets, stating that his Department was prepared to make the land available subject to the Council paying all survey and proclamation fees and any other expenditure involved. It was resolved that the Minister be thanked for his offer, which was accepted. Three new water installations were approved. The Sanitary Inspector, Mr F. E. Ellett, submitted a report concerning a supplementary sewerage system for Carterton, and urged that the proposal be placed before ratepayers at an early date. After discussion it was resolved that the matter be further dealt with at the next meeting of the Council. It was resolved that tenders be called for repairs to the cottage on the Borough Reserve in Moreton Road.
