GREYTOWN
PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE NATIONAL SAVINGS CAMPAIGN. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Greytown Patriotic Committee j held a meeting in the Council Chambers meeting room last night. Mr A. W. Horton occupied the chair. A resolution was passed that the money for one three-monthly parcel bo sent to the Red Cross Society, Wellington, to purchase a parcel for each Greytown prisoner of war. A vote of thanks was passed to Mrs J. F. Thompson for arranging the concert, which brought in the sum of £4O for the Parcel Fund. It was mentioned that 73 parcels had been’forwarded recently. Sixteen letters of thanks were received from the soldiers on service. A letter of thanks is to be sent to the Greytown- Hospital staff for the sum of £B7 received for the Prisoner of War Parcel Fund. A discussion took place in regard to the National Savings Campaign. Mr Kiernan suggested that the business people be asked to co-operate with the postmaster, Mr E. Maddison, with a view to increasing the local National Savings. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs R. Rout, of Karori, were the weekend guests of Mr and Mrs J. Reid, McMaster Street. Mr and Mrs W. Carwell-Cooke, of Palmerston North, were the guests of Mrs C. Duff, Main Street, over the weekend. United Nations Fair. The Crown Theatre, Greytown, will be the centre of attraction on November 5, when the Anglican Ladies’ Guild will hold a “United Nations Fair.” There will be stalls containing goods, sewing, flowers, cakes, etc. In the evening a short musical programme is to be given by the Sunday School scholars. The Fair will be opened at 2 p.m. by the Rev. J. C. Abbott. Labour Party Dance. The Ladies’ Social Committee of the Labour Party held a very successful euchre party and dance on Monday night. The prize winners at euchre were:— Ladies: Mrs Smith, 1; Mrs Rowlands, 2. Men: Mr Lyster, 1; Mr Strang, 2. The consolation prizes were won by Mrs Hood and Mr McHardy. The music for the dancing was supplied by Mr S. Te Tau. The duties of Personal. Mrs Jewell and Miss O’Kane, are spending a holiday in Napier. Miss Merl Corkery, of Dannevirke, was the guest of Mrs G. Hood, Humphries Street, over the weekend. Miss Shirley Simmonds, of Wellington, was the guest over the weekend of Mrs J. Hood, East Street. TOWN HALL DOUBLE FEATURE BILL. Tomorrow night at the Town Hall there will be shown two big features. “Among the Living” is a sensational drama, featuring Albert Dekker and Susan Hayward, while “Riding the Wind,” is an excellent western drama with Tim Holt in the chief role.
