NAVAL APPOINTMENT

IN SOUTH PACIFIC AREA DEPUTY TO ADMIRAL HALSEY (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, October 26. The new deputy-commander* to Admiral W. F. Halsey, commander, South Pacific area, is Rear-Admiral John Franklin Shafroth, who, before he came to the South Pacific some months ago, was commander of the United States naval forces in the South-East Pacific. This area included the waters adjacent to South America and the Panama Canal, and the command was created in May, 1942. As commander of that area.
