LICENSING POLL

POSITION IN INVERCARGILL RESULT EXPECTED THIS WEEK (By Telegraph—Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, October 26. An announcement about the position of the local licensing poll in Invercargill will definitely be made this week, according to the chief electoral officer, Mr L. Irwin, Wellington. It will be the first count final result and it will give a fairly true indication of the state of the poll. Final results of the services voting in the Middle East had been received and the overseas returning officers were now working on the Pacific voting, he said. It had been computed that there were about 1400 votes still to be collected, but as the average votes for each electorate worked out at about 20 it would be competent foJf the electoral office to make an announcement. Asked if he would care to say what were the prospects of restoration being carried in Invercargill, Mr Irwin replied, “The position is very interesting.”
