Constitution Objected To.

Objection to the new constitution of the National Patriotic Fund Board as announced recently by the Minister of Internal Affairs, was voiced at a meeting of the executive of the Southland Provincial Patriotic Council at Invercargill yesterday. The chief objection was to the fact that Southland ana Otago are to be represented by one delegate. The opinion was expressed that Southland was entitled to a delegate of its own. No-Licence League. Arrangements for an educational programme were made by a meeting of the Masterton No-Licence League, held last night. The resignation of the Rev. D. McNeur, secretary, owing to his impending departure from Masterton, was accepted, and a motion thanking him for his services and expressing the League’s appreciation of his work was passed. Satisfaction was expressed at the result of the recent no-licence poll in the Masterton electorate. Summer Dress for Troops. Formal approval of the issue of the new summer dress to troops on fulltime service in New Zealand is given by an Army instruction published this week. The initial issue will consist of khaki drill shirt and drill trousers (battle-dress pattern). The uniform will bo issued to mobilised territorials, Guards Vital Points, and members of the New Zealand Temporary Staff, except .those employed in clerical duties in towns and cities and those already issued with drill uniform. Issues of summer dress will not be to nonmobilised territorials. Betting System at Woodville Races. As Hie Woodville District Jockey Club has been refused a permit to extend its totalisator house, the stewards gave careful consideration to the system under which the totalisatoi should be run at. the December meeting. Owing' to the shortage of selling and payout windows and the cramped conditions for internal working, it. was considered that, until the building could bo amplified, the public would be better served with the single-pool. The stewards reluctantly decided to revert to that system.
