MISS C. BOND HONOURED GATHERING AT BELVEDERE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Belvedere schoolroom was filled / on Saturday night when a dance and “parcel evening” was tendered Miss Cynthia Bond whose marriage will take place shortly. Mr A. E. Reid asked Miss Bond to accept the many useful presents and wished her good luck and a happy married life. Private Stevenson, who is on furlough from overseas, on behalf of Miss Bond, suitably replied. Mr A. H. Callister, chairman of the Patriotic Committee, on behalf of the settlers of the district, made a presentation to Private Monahan, who is on leave, and wished him good luck and 'a safe return to the district. Private Monahan suitably returned thanks. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Sapper Fryer and Miss E. Waterson. Miss Mary Herrick provided excellent dance music and much appreciated extras were played by Misses B. James and I. Thomas. Mr A. E. Reid was an efficient M.C. The gathering was a most enjoyable one, and was excellently managed. Cheese Output. Owing to an unfavourable autumn the cheese output at the Wairarapa factories is very much below that of previous seasons. With the advent of improved weather and a better growth of grass, the position should improve, but it is doubtful whether the shortage will be made up. Side Shows Arrive. Many of the side shows for the Wairarapa Show have arrived on the grounds and the proprietors have erected their tents in readiness for business on Wednesday and Thursday. Shortage of Fruit. There are indications that there will be a very serious shortage of stone fruit in the Wairarapa this season owing to the frosts and continued wet weather. Apples and gooseberries however should be plentiful. Borough Council Meeting. The monthly meeting of the Carterton Borough Council will be held in the borough offices tomorrow evening.
