SOLWAY COLLEGE

OLD GIRLS’ ASSOCIATION REUNION & BAZAAR GATHERINGS DURING WEEKEND The annual Solway Old Girls’ reunion was held during the weekend and in conjunction with this the present prefects held their bazaar. The proceedings began with a meeting of the Old Girls’ branch on Saturday morning and the annual meeting in the early afternoon. The society regretted that it was necessary for Mrs Avann, who had been president for a number of years, to resign owing to health reasons. Mrs Elaine Kitt was elected as president for the coming year. Other officers elected were: Patron, Mrs M. B. Thompson; vice patron, Miss H. M. M. Macßae; vice-presidents, Mesdames Hora Shaw, Erina Burkett and Lorna McCaw, Misses Jean Douglas and Megan Rowlands;- secretary, Miss Annie Tregurtha; assistant secretary, Mrs Ily Southey; committee, Mrs.Esmay Isaacson, Misses Pat Blamires, Wynne Dunkley, Alison Mead, Sadie Keenan, Eileen Aitken, Flora Loffler, Margaret and Pauline Wilson. The Old Girls’ meetings were well attended, considering war conditions and difficulties of travelling. In the evening the association gave a cleverly organised concert to the present girls and presented a beautiful programme to Miss Macßae. Later they entertained the school at supper.

Yesterday morning the Old Girls’ Association held its annual church parade at Knox Church. The Rev W. J. Couling preached a fine sermon. The singing was led by the girls of the College, under the leadership of Miss Mavis Macdonald, who also supplied the music for the service.

In the afternoon the official functions were brought to a close by a social afternoon tea, held at the College. Miss Macßae was the guest of the Old Girls’ Association.

The bazaar, on Saturday afternoon, was a great success. The garden party which had been planned had to be changed to an indoor function but the spirits of the visitors were not dampened. The prefects are to be congratulated on the variety and quality of their wares. Their efforts were rewarded by takings which will out-record those of any other year. The School thanks its many friends for donations of flowers, produce, etc., and for supporting so liberally the girls’ efforts.
