DELIGHT IN FRANCE
AT MUSSOLINI’S DOWNFALL ADMITTED RUEFULLY BY PRO-NAZIS Radio-Paris and Radio-Lyons broadcasting stations have been showingrage at open rejoicing at Mussolini s downfall and failure to believe in ultimate German victory. “Last week, Mussolini’s resignation was greeted with shouts of joy, was one sentence of a broadcast by Philippe Henriot. Bitterly he chided, “To see the number of strategists and tacticians now at our disposal causes regret that we did not make better use of competent people in 1939. Everywhere I hempeople repeating, ‘The war is over, il is only a question of months, even weeks, now.’ ” The 8.8. C. broadcasters wore ruefully referred to as “dope sellers,” Their results were excellent, the French traitor broadcaster had to admit. “I have just spent a few days in the southern zone,” he said, “and I can assure you that while, up to now, the northern zone, especially Paris, led in producing and circulating tall stories, the southern zone has more than made up for its previous inferiority.” Paint the picture how they will, the Nazis and their puppets cannot deceive the quick-witted French, who know that for the Germans the game is up.
