SOVIET AID
IN DEALING WITH JAPAN AFTER HITLER’S DEFEAT. HOPED FOR IN AUSTRALIA. (Special Australian Correspondent.) SYDNEY, October 21. The appointment of a new Australian Minister to Russia again emphasises the importance which the Commonwealth attaches to collaboration with Russia in both the war and post-wai years. The Australian attitude towaid the Soviet Union has been discussed by the “New York Times” correspondent here, Frank Kluckhorn, who says that Australia hopes the war in the Pacific will be discussed at the threePower conference in Moscow. “Many Australians are hopeful that Russia will inject some new ideas into the post-war picture.” He adds: “That is why the Australian public hopes that Russia's Far Eastern attitude will be more than a side issue at the Moscow conference. There is a general view that Russia must cooperate in beating Japan after Hitler’s defeat. There are few Australians who do not feel that Soviet participation against Japan after Germany is crushed will shorten the Pacific war more than any other factor.”
