STORE BULLOCK PRICES
SOAR AT MASTERTON SALE.
SHARP RISE IN FEMALE CATTLE VALUES. The Associated Auctioneers report as follows on their second spring cattle . fair of the season yesterday:—An entry well up to advertised numbers was submitted to a large and representative attendance. Buyers from outside districts were very active and took a large part of the entry. Considering the long dry autumn and late spring experienced in this district, the cattle generally were in better condition than anticipated. The yearlings showed the effects of the season far more than the older cattle. Considerably more fats were yarded than at the first fair. Butchers were very keen, and values maintained a high level. Grown store bullocks were in short supply, and it appears there will not be nearly enough of this class of cattle to meet the demand. Consequently prices soared for the few pens yarded yesterday. The 2-year and yearling steers were disappointing, the majority being undersized and backward in condition, and prices were easier than last sale. All classes of female cattle met with particularly strong competition, and prices showed a sharp rise. Outside buyers were keen on these, and bought the bulk of the entry. Cows with calves at foot maed very good prices. The following are realisations:— 3-year P.A. heifers. —A/c. Est. W. H. Buick, £8 7s 6d; F. J. Miller, £8 6s; Tikitapu, £8 2s 6d; Sulphur Wells, £8; F.
