STOCK MARKET
SALE AT ADDINGTON. HIGH PRICES FOR FAT CATTLE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) ’ CHRISTCHURCH, October 20. At the Addington market a small entry of fat cattle raised values to about the highest level of the season. Springlambs were also firmer, and with the setting in of spring weather there was a keen inquiry for store cattle and sheep. Ewe hoggets of good quality sold exceptionally well, top price being 41s 6d. A line of wether hoggets sold from 29s to 335, the highest price of the season. The fat sheep market was again very sound for quality, but there was a dragging tendency in cases of light and unfinished sheep. On the whole there was little change in recent values. Owing to the restricted supply of woolly wethers, the best ewes were eageilj sought, and again high figures ruled for both classes Highest price for ewes was 58s 7d, and for wethers 58s Id, shorn ewes making to 47s 7d, and wethers to 48s Id. With the sharp rise in values fat cattle recovered last week’s drop of about 30s a head, and improved by a further 10s to 15s a head on the high market of two weeks ago. The entry of porkers was smaller than usual, and good quality pigs again sold well. Large choppers maintained recent values, but lighter pigs were easier. Values showed little change in the bacon section, the average price per lb. being 8d to BJd.
