SOLDIERS’ COMFORTS* CARD TOURNAMENT. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a very large attendance at the Borough Ladies’ Soldiers’ Comforts Committee flag 500 tournament held in the Anglican Hall. The games were controlled by Mr Mereywether. Miss M. Anderson (president) presented the prizes to the following winners: —Ladies: Mesdames G. MurrayAynsley and N. Liardet. Men: Messrs W. Olsen and Woodham. Mesdames McAlister and Liardet were the hostesses. The prizes were donated by Mesdames M. R. Herbert, Liardet, H. Higginson and McAlister. The committee thanks the following for donations: Mr M. W. Priest, £5; Mrs J. Taylor. 10s; Mrs Rowden Senr., ss; Mesdames A. Frederickson and E. D. Toohill, 3s each. The committee has packed 40 Christmas parcels for local soldiers overseas and forwarded 10s to the next-of-kin of Prisoners of War Fund with which to buy chocolate to put in the parcels. The borough ladies’ committee packed 150 parcels in Masterton, this being the quota for the Eketahuna district. Personal Items. The many friends of Mrs K. Kendall, Bengston Street, will be pleased to heai* that she has returned home from the Pahiatua hospital. Mrs A. Hawkins, Otaki, is the guest of her daughter, Mrs R. Thomason. Atea. The death has occurred of Mrs Harry Hansen, who was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Schorman, pioneer settlers of the district, and a sister of Mrs M. Scharnwcber, of Masterton. She is survived by her husband, two daughters (Mesdames Elsmore, Hamua, and H. R. Nordell, Atea), and three sons (Messrs Walter, Richard and Archie Hansen), all of whom live in the district. Messrs F. Schorman (Hastings) and J. Schorman (King Country) are brothers.
