No Eggs This Week.
On account of an extremely heavy order for eggs this week, none will be available in the Masterton area through the usual sources. It is hoped to make an additional quantity available to local consumers next week. A small quantity of eggs is available at the Masterton Egg Floor this week for issue in cases of emergency. Pensioner’s Application.
An application from a pensioner who stated that he wished “to get his teeth through the board,” was greeted with laughter at yesterday afternoon's meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board. The application was agreed to, a member jocularly adding a proviso that the applicant did not get his teeth into the board. Dog Championships.
Mr S. D. Geary, of Masterton, who exhibited his nointer, Stamford Statesman. at the Hawke’s Bay Kennel Club's show, was awarded best dog in the show’ This is the second time within six weeks that this dog has won a championshio. .The dual champion holder, Mr J. W. Curtin’s Rose of Tralee, won the Barry Bros.’ cup at the show for the best retriever.
Superannuation Payment. The matter of paying superannuation payments for a member ol the musing staff of the Masterton Hospital, who was absent for a long period on account of contracting tuberculosis and then returned to the board’s employ, was discussed at a meeting of the Waiiarapa Hospital Board yesterday, lhe board decided to pay the contributions, which amounted to over £39. Laboratory Accommodation.
At its meeting yesterday the Wairarapa Hospital Board decided to build additional laboratory space at the Masterton Hospital at. a cost of “PP 1 ’ 0 * 1 ' matcly £1765. As the sum ol £7OO only had been placed on the estimates the raising of lhe extra finance was eft in the hands of the Finance Committee. The Managing-Secretary, Mr Norman Lee, said the estimate was his figure. He had planned for a building 20 feet by 20 feet but the new building would be 25ft x 23ft.
Dunedin Rabbitskins Sale. Considerably smaller catalogues were submitted at the Dunedin rabbitskins sale this week, and the quality of the offering was noorcr. Prices genet ally, as compared with last sale, were on a lower level. The bulk of the oflciing comprised milky, springs and outgoings, and prices lor these grades weie easier by 4d to Wd per lb. Only small quantities of winter skins were ottered, and bucks declined 4d to (id per lb., and does up to 12d per lb., as compared with the last sale.
