LADIES’ CROQUET CLUB ENJOYABLE CARD PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Greytown Ladies’ Croquet Club held a very enjoyable card party at the residence of Mrs A. Haigh, Humphries Street, yesterday afternoon. The playing members entertained honorary members and friends at flag bridge, euchre and Chinese checkers. The president, Mrs H. G. Carter, presented Mrs Haigh (hostess and secretary) with a pretty shoulder spray oi pansies and maidenhair fern, and Mrs Gregor (treasurer) received a shoulder spray of auriculas and asparagus. Mrs Carter was presented with a spray of violas and freesias by Mrs Haigh. The winners of flag bridge were Mesdames Tully Senr., E. Maddison, and A. Balfour. The winners of the euchre prizes were Mrs W. Gates and Miss Udy. Mrs J. Garrity won the Chinese checkers. The club this season is celebrating its 21st anniversary, the party yesterday being a preliminary to the same. Afternoon tea was served after which Mrs Carter thanked Mrs Haigh on behalf of the Croquet Club, for the use of her home for the gathering. Several honorary members and a new playing member joined yesterday and the coming season promises to be a very active one. Mrs Haigh was thanked for having so generously supplied all the prizes for the party. FINAL COMPETITIONS MINIATURE RIFLES CLUB. AhKit, 82. Patriotic Activities. The sum of £B7 5s has been handed to the Patriotic Committee being the proceeds of the Greytown Hospital combined staffs’ dance. This money is to be used to provide parcels for prisoners of war. The Greytown Citizens’ Patriotic Committee has just completed the packing of 73 parcels for soldiers overseas. Mrs J. F. Thompson has handed to the Patriotic Committee the sum of £4O 3s lid being the net result of the concert held in the Town Hall last month. This money is to be credited to the Parcel Fund Account. Personal. The friends of Mrs H. C. Trotman, who is in the Kelvin Hospital, Featherston, will be pleased to know that she is making steady progress towards recovery. Social Gathering and Dance. The citizens’ committee will hold a social gathering and dance in the Town Hall tonight. The music will be supplied by Mr Udy’s Orchestra. Messrs C. Stringfellow, N. Garrity, W. Flood and J. Nelson will be guests at the gathering. Collection of Rates. The rate levied this year by the Greytown Borough Council amounted to £4,147 and the amount collected on the last rebate day (££3,387) represented 81.67 per cent of the rate struck. The percentage collected for the same period last year was 80.20. The total rates outstanding amount to £736, as compared with £1,173 last year. TOWN HALL TWO BIG FEATURES. There will be two big features shown tonight. “On the Sunny Side” is an excellent drama featuring Roddy McDowell and Jane Darwell. “The Ghost of Frankenstein” is a thrilling drama, in which the chief roles are .taken by Lon Chaney, Sir Cedric Hardwicke, Evelyn Ankers and Ralph Bellamy.
