MORE AIR LOSSES
SUFFERED BY JAPANESE ALLIES SHOOT DOWN 44 PLANES IN TWO DAYS. INCLUDING 19 OVER WEWAK. LONDON, October 18. General MacArthur’s headquarters reports that 24 Japanese aircraft were shot down yesterday. On the previous day 19 were brought down over Wewak. Australian troops defending Finsciihafen, in New Guinea wiped out a Japanese landing party. They also repulsed two enemy counter-attacks north of the town.
