P. & A. SOCIETY

MEETING AT CARTERTON ARRANGEMENT FOR WAIRARAPA SHOW. CABINET MINISTERS TO ATTEND. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr J. A. McLeod presided over an attendance of twenty-eight members of the general committee of the Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. Society at Carterton on Saturday. A vote of condolence was passed to relatives of the late Mr R. D. Knight, of Palmerston North. The treasurer reported a cr. balance of £765 16s 2d. The secretary stated that the canvas for donations to the prize list had been very satisfactory. He announced that splendid entries had been received for the show, particularly in horses and ring events. The Jersey, Friesian and sheep entries were good and the cooking, sewing and school sections were better supported than at the 1941 show. Advice was received that the Hons. W. Nash, P. Webb, W. E. Parry and D. G. Sullivan would attend the show. It was decided to ask the member for the district, Mr Ben Roberts, to meet the visitors, along with the president and other members of the committee. The offer of the Masterton Interhcuse Association of four teams to give a marching exhibition on the second day of the show, was left to a small committee to deal with. It was resolved that the society grant honorary membership to the newlyformed Wairarapa Veterinary Association. Mr J. M. Nicholls was appointed a steward for the entries listed in the Agricultural Hall. Fourteen new members were elected. The question of privileges extended to invalids in motor cars was discussed, members stating that these had > been abused. It was resolved that genuine invalids should be catered for in the vicinity of the show ring, and a committee was appointed to attend to the matter. The matter of an autumn show was discussed, as reported in Saturday’s “Times-Age,” and the following committee was appointed to meet members of the Master'ton A. and P. Association in connection therewith:—Messrs J. A. McLeod, W. Howard Booth, C. J. Nix, C. M. Reynolds and W. H. Robieson.
