BACHELORS & SPINSTERS CARD PARTY AND DANCE. (“Times-Age” Special.) i The bachelors and spinsters’ card party and dance was most successful and enjoyable. The card prizes were won by Mrs Terito (ladies) and Mr J. Atkinson (men). The dance music was supplied by Mr D, Matenga. Personal Items. The many friends in this district will be pleased to learn that Private Laurie Jensen, who has been a prisoner of war in Italy, has escaped to Switzerland. Messrs Ritti and Kamo have returned from Gisborne. Mr and Mrs Clothier are visiting relatives at Pirinoa. Miss T. Watson is visiting Lyttelton. The death occurred in the Greytown Hospital on Thursday morning of .Mrs Lena Piwari. She was the youngest daughter of Mr G. Taurau and the late Mrs Taurau, well-known residents of the district. She was a grand-daughter of the late Mr Arapata Te Maari. The funeral took place at the Kohunui Cemetery. Mrs R. Gillies, Hastings, is visiting this district. Writing to his father, Mr J. Duggan, Private Noel Duggan states that he was now attached to a Tank Unit and that he was in the best of health. A reunion of Lowci’ Valley service men was held at a Middle East town and they all desired to be remembered to the residents of the district.

Heavy Rain Causes Flood. Very heavy rain fell here on Thursday afternoon and caused considerable flooding in low-lying areas.
