WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT NIREAHA COMPETITION WINNERS (“Times-Age" Special.) Mrs Terry extended a warm welcome to all members and to Mrs Hawkins, Senr., of Te Horo, to the monthly meeting of the Nireaha Women s Institute. Letters of appreciation were read from Pte. J. Shannon for biscuits and Pte W. Davidson (prisoner of war) for chocolates received. Members were asked to grow three seed potatoes in connection with the Crewe Rose Bowl competition. Mrs Petersen and Mrs Golder were appointed delegates to the council meeting at Woodville. Arrangements were made for providing biscuits and the packing of three unaddressed parcels. The sum of 15s lid was realised by the auctioning of goods for the soldiers' parcel fund. Members expressed their thanks to Mrs S. Davis for having supplied patterns to make children's socks from woven material, the finished articles shown being greatly admired. The winners of the competitions were; Home-made soap, Mrs Golder 1, Mrs Terry 2, Mrs O'Neil 3. Sponge sandwich: Mrs Terry 1, Mesdames J. and W. Drysdale, equal, 2; Mrs Hawkins and Mrs J. Drysdale, equal, 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Golder 1, Mrs O’Neil 2. Small bloom, Mrs J. Drysdale 1. Large, bloom, Mrs W. W. Drysdale 1.
The hostesses were Mrs O’Neil and Mrs Mason.
The competitions for November will be: Best article made from flour bags; best pansy, vegetable and bloom. The roll call will be a gardening hint.
