FEATHERSTON
MILITARY BALL A BRILLIANT SUCCESS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The complimentary military ball in the Town Flail last night was a brilliant success. There was a large attendance of dancers, who thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The Town Hall was beautifully decorated. Excellent music was supplied by an orchestra. A Monte Carlo dance was won by Corporal and Mrs M. Maddison. The supper was presided over by service men. Colonel Donaldson welcomed those present to the dance, and the Mayor (Mr J. W. Card) replied on behalf of the citizens of Featherston. Women’s Institute Meeting. The monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute was held in the Kahutara Hall. Mrs Hood presided over a good attendance of members. One new member was welcomed. It was reported that 18 cakes had been packed and dispatched to the local service men overseas. The competition at the November meeting will be “the best toy made from old material.” Mrs Hood was the winner of the competition for a duchess set. The competitions resulted as follows: Best bloom, Mrs McKenna 1, Miss Dimes 2; best cushion cover from a sugar bag, Mrs Wilson 1, Mrs Hewison 2. Personal. Messrs T. Kamo and J. Riki have returned from Ruatoria. They spent a few days with Mr Riki’s mother at Muriwai, Gisborne. COSY THEATRE DOUBLE PROGRAMME. There will be a double feature programme at the Cosy Theatre tonight. William Boyd and Brad King will be seen in an excellent drama of the west, “Stick to Your Guns,” and Jane Withers, William Tracey and Jane Darwell have the chief roles in a splendid comedy-drama, “Young America.”
