EKETAHUNA

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE COUNCIL DELEGATES ELECTED. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Eketahuna Women’s Institute, Mrs Albrechtsen presided over a good attendance. An apology for absence was received from Mrs Spurdie. Mrs R. Farrow and Miss M. Hooper were elected delegates to attend the annual council meeting at Woodville on October 28. It was decided to send some articles to Woodville for the sales stall at the council meeting. The birthdays of six members were honoured, and they were presented with posies. Mrs Olivant read the motto, “Never trouble trouble till trouble troubles you.” The President announced that in November the Institute’s birthday would be celebrated. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Hutchings and Schulz. The winners of the various competitions were as follows:—Sponge tray, Mrs Petersen; cups, Mrs Albrechtsen; 3 polyanthus, Mrs Higginson; 6 narcissii, Mrs Baucke 1, Mrs Oliver 2, Mrs B. Morris 3; premier bloom, Mrs Fauvel 1, Mrs B. Morris 2 and 3; 3 flowers, Mrs Higginson 1, Mrs B. Morris 2, Mrs Higginson 3. It was decided to send a donation to the Makogai Leper Fund. Personal Items. Mrs H. T. B. Browne, of Silverstream, is visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs F. Hooper, Stanley Street. Mrs Edmonds, Stanley Street, Parkville, who is a patient in the Pahiatua Hospital, is progressing favourably.
