CARTERTON
FOOTBALL CLUB DANCE SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. • (“Times-Age” Special.) Despite the inclement weather there / was a large attendance at the State Theatre last evening, when the Carterton Football Club tendered a complimentary dance to its ladies’ committee. The hall was tastefully decorated for the occasion by the ladies and the members of the committee, and reflected great credit upon those concerned. The floor was in excellent order, and a most enjoyable time was spent. Much appreciated extras were played by Miss E. Lorenzen, Messrs Pawai and L. McIntosh. The judges of the competition dances, Mr .and Mrs W. D. Moroney, made their awards as follow:—Statue valeta, Miss B. Parker and Mr Lloyd Mclntosh; waltz, Mr and Mrs H. Petersen; lucky spot, Miss M. Broughton and Mr M. Condon; fox trot, Miss V. Jordan and partner. The M.’sC. were Messrs K. H. Reid, I. Blake and J. Fitzgerald. Supper was presided over by a capable ladies’ committee. ORDER OF DRUIDS JUVENILE LODGE TO BE OPENED. The opening of the Juvenile Lodge of Druids will take place in the lodge room on Friday next at 6.45 p.m. It will be an event unique in the Druidic history of Carterton. Grand Lodge will be represented by Grand President Bro. H. Harker, Grand Secretary Bro. A. Williams, Grand Treasurer Bro. J. Gauntlet, and Past Grand President Bro. F. Jackson. After the conclusion of the ceremony the parents of the juvenile members and visitors will be entertained at supper. Wairarapa Show. The Wairarapa Caledonian Society has donated prizes for piping events at the night show at Carterton on Wednesday, October 27. The events are open and maiden piping and post entries will be accepted. In addition, the Caledonian Society has given points prizes of £1 each for children’s dancing under 12 and 12 to 16 years Members of the Caledonian Society will assist with the running of piping and dancing events. General entries for the show are coming in well, and entries will be accepted until Saturday, October 16. Methodist Church Anniversary. The seventy-second anniversary of the Methodist Church, Carterton, was largely attended. A knife and work tea was provided in the Sunday School, and the hall later cleared, an enjoyable programme was rendered. The Rev. R. Grice presided. The following contributed to the programme:—Solo, Mr Thomas; violin solo, Mr T. Udy; solo, Mrs M. W. Worsfold; elocutionary items, Mrs Jones; solo, Miss Barron. The Revs. W. F. Stent and W. J. Couling, in appropriate speeches, referred to the church’s anniversary and the many changes that had taken place in Carterton and district during the past 72 years. Both brought greetings from their denominations to the Methodists of the Carterton district.
A most interesting address was given by the Rev. Mr Robertson on Japanese temples and modes of worship.
