REMITTANCES TO TROOPS

PERMISSIBLE AMOUNT INCREASED. FROM £3O TO £4O A YEAR. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Instead of providing for a special Christmas remittance for the present year,, the Minister of Finance (Mr Nash) announced today that the Governmetn had decided to increase by £lO. from £3O to £4O (New Zealand currency) the amount which may be transmitted during any one remittance year to members of the Armed Forces serving overseas. The remittance year for the First and Second Echelon troops commences on June 1, while for all others the remittance year commences as from the date of embarkation. Many relatives and friends of men serving overseas forward remittances as Christmas gifts, and these remitters are urged to lodge the money at a bank and forward bank receipts to the Departments concerned (namely, Base Records, the Air and Navy Departments) as early as possible, and certainly not later than November 24 next.
