LAWLESS ACTION
BY JAPANESE AT MACAO ATTEMPT TO KIDNAP BRITISH CONSUL (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.55 a.m.) CHUNGKING, October 8. The Japanese again violated Portuguese neutrality when they attempted to kidnap Mr. John Pownell Reeves. British Consul at Macao, says the Associated Press, quoting a report from Macao. The report gave no details. A previous violation was the Japanese seizure of the British steamer Sian, at Macao, in August, after killing twenty armed guards and policemen. The Tokio radio stated today that the Portuguese Premier, Dr Salazar, and the Japanese Minister, Mr Morishima, conferred in Lisbon on matters relating to Timor.
