RATION BOOKS

ISSUE OF NEW SERIES STARTING ON MONDAY Details of the issue of the new thirdseries ration books as from Monday, October 11, from all money-order offices throughout the Dominion have been advertised by the Food and Rationing Controller, Mr Jas. E. Thomas. In commenting on the issue of the new book, Mr Thomas said that the tea and sugar coupons in the current ration book expire at the end of October so that everyone should secure the new. book before the end of the month. After October 30, books will be available only from rationing offices. Early application is desirable to avoid congestion at the end of the month. To secure the new book, a separate application is required for each person and the head of the household may apply for every member of the family. In support of each application, the current second-series ration book must be produced, together with the Social Security Book, for persons sixteen years of age and over. Application for children under sixteen years of age must be made by the parent or guardian whether they are at home, board-ing-school ox* elsewhere. Principals of boarding-schools should return to the parents early in October all ration books in their care, after the October tea and sugar rations have been drawn. In the case of sickness or physical disability and where there is no adult member of the family to secure the new book, the current ration book and Social Security Book may be handed to a friend who may then act as agent without further authority. Members of the Armed Services living out of of camp must support their applications with the current ration book and Form R. 8.4 (issued by commanding officers) in place of Social Security Book. Expectant mothers are to receive a supplementary ration book. The new ration books of the general issue are in three age-groups and contain a variety of coupons. In the meantime, none of the coupons is available and the books are not to be used in any way except to write the name and address of the holder on the outside cover.
