WOMEN’S DIVISION

MASTERTON BRANCH MEETING COMFORTS FOR MERCANTILE MARINE. MORE HELPERS WANTED FOR CLOTHING REPAIRS. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in Masterton yesterday. Mrs. C. C. Jackson presided. A resolution of sympathy was passed to Miss Bennett, secretary, on the illness of her father, and to Mrs. R. Gerrand, who is confined to her home. The Wool Committee reported receiving further woollen comforts for the mercantile marine and stated more wool would be available from the Patriotic Committee. A member from the Bay of Plenty was welcomed and she conveyed greeting's from Opotiki Branch. The president stated that several packages of repaired army clothing had been despatched to Wellington but these were not sent so often as she wished. It was desired to help the National Reclamation of Waste Committee in its endeavour to prevent waste of good clothing by repairing same, and more helpers were needed. The Rest Room was open all day on Fridays. The first instalment of a donation of five guineas was sent to headquarters to help in the furnishing of Rest Homes in Nelson and Waimate respectively.

A report was read on the meeting of the League of Mothers where Mrs. Neville Parsonson gave an address on social diseases and it was decided to support the resolutions passed at that meeting. The shop day and Women’s Market both did good business. The first was in charge of Mesdames G. Beard, A. Ross and Riddell, and the latter was in charges of Mesdames D. James and E. Wilton. It was the last shop day of the year.
