NAZI TERRORISM
CAMPAIGN AGAINST JEWS IN DENMARK RESISTED BY PATRIOTS SHIPS SUNK AT COPENHAGEN (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.20 p.m.) LONDON, October 6. Two transports waiting at Copenhagen to transport Jews to Germany have been sunk by saboteurs, says a Stockholm message. The “Daily Express” Stockholm correspondent says Jews who have found sanctuary in Sweden from the Gestapo tell stories of nights of terror. The grim story begins towards the end of August, when armed Germans forced their way into the office of the Jewish community in Copenhagen and carried off all its records. Among the papers were lists of all Jewish associations, complete with details of property owned by every Jew. From these lists, the Germans picked their victims. Wholesale arrests were made, including all members of some families. Danes fought off the Gestapo with firearms when they attempted to take Jews. It is reported that 1,800 Jews are now herded in a German transport headed for Gdynia, in Poland, for forced labour.
