SERVICES APPRECIATED
MRS. H. E. PITHER HONOURED. BY LADIES’ AUXILIARY MEMBERS. Yesterday afternoon, thirty-three members of the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Y.M.C.A. met at “Gumley House,” Lansdowne, to do honour to their expresident, Mrs. H. E. Pither. Songs by Mrs. Spicer gave much pleasure and later on in the afternoon a competition was entered into with much interest by all. Following the serving of afternoon tea, Mrs F. Nelson, on behalf of the members, presented Mrs. Pither with a frameless bevelled mirror and silk handkerchiefs, as a token of friendship and appreciation of all she had accomplished as president of the Auxiliary. Mrs. Nelson said Mrs. Pither had given wonderful service to the community and especially in the interest of service men, and it was a matter for regret that she had found it necessary to sever her connection with the Masterton Y.M.C.A. Mrs. Pither, in her reply, wished the ladies success in their future work. Much merriment and also surprise was caused when “lucky cups” were found to be the order of the day, gifts for which were supplied by Mrs Pither. After a stroll around the beautiful garden, “Auld Lang Syne” .was sung, bringing to a close a most successful afternoon. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Kilgour, Prescott, Anstice, Diamond, Pike, W. Taylor and Rayner, and Miss Pinkerton. Mrs. Nelson thanked Mrs. Pither for the use of her home.
