A broken journal (portion of an axle) on a coach, caused the wreck of the Pennsylvania Congressional Limited in Philadelphia on September 6, when 79 persons were killed and 129 were injured. This is the finding of the Interstate Commerce Commission, which said the train was travelling at 65 miles an hour in a zone in which the maximum authorised speed is 70 miles.
