ITALIANS IN BALKANS
DISARMED AND ENSLAVED BY GERMANS. TAKEN TO REICH IN CATTLE TRUCKS. LONDON, October 4. The Italian Embassy in Ankara stated that the Italian army in the Balkans, after being disarmed by the Germans on the promise of repatriation, is now being taken to Germany in cattle trucks for slave labour. The Germans have taken food and clothes from the Italians, who are in rags and are famished. v The Embassy claims that the Italian Army lost 100,000 men on the Russian front during last winter, as a result of the Germans promising support and then retreating and leaving the Italians isolated. According to a report from Berne, the Italian provinces of Bolgano, Trento and Belluno, which are part of the Italian Tyrol, have been incorporated in Germany. Each province will have a separate administration under the authority of a Tyrol gauleiter. Italian prefects wil be compelled to pledge allegiance to Hitler, and not to Mussolini.
