FIGHTING ON KOS
GERMANS CLAIM CAPTURE OF BRITISH TROOPS. ALLIED AIR ATTACKS ON RHODES AND CRETE. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, October 4. Fighting continues on the island of Kos, in the Dodecanese. The Germans have secured several important points on the island following their landing yesterday. Giving this news, today’s Middle East communique says that Allied aircraft attacked enemy shipping off Kos yesterday and scored many hits. Fighters destroyed two Junkers 87s which tried to bomb the airfield on the island. Liberators and Halifaxes bombed an airfield on Rhodes and the Heraclion airfield in Crete. From all these operations six Allied aircraft are missing . The German news agency claimed that the German forces attacked Kos from landing-craft and captured more than 200 British troops and killed a number of others. Part of the British forces fled to the mountains. Resistance was encountered at only a few points. The Germans captured all the military installations.
