CEREMONY AT RUATORIA IN HONOUR OF LATE LIEUTENANT NGARIMU. PROCEEDING IN HEAVY RAIN. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GISBORNE, This Day. A thunderstorm and heavy rain last night and today damped the spirits of large convoys of Maoris and Europeans throughout Gisborne and the East Coast district attending the Victoria Cross investiture hui at Ruatoria—the ceremonies in connection with the award of the Victoria Cross to the late Second-Lieutenant Monanui-a-Kiwa Ngarimu. A drizzle began at Ruatoria this morning. A downpour overnight, as far as Tokomaru Bay, brought down a slip at Tatapouri, which was cleared quickly for the passage of the official convoy of ninety vehicles. The Maoris have planned traditional ceremonies at both Tolaga Bay and Tokomaru Bay today, when the Gover-nor-General (Sir Cyril Newall) will open the Raukapanga Centennial Meeting House at the former centre, and the Whanaua-a-Rua Centennial Dining Hall at Tokomaru Bay. The GovernorGeneral's party will be guests at the Kaharau Homestead, at Ruatoria, tonight.
