BASTIA TAKEN

LAST GERMAN ESCAPE PORT IN CORSICA CAPTURED BY FRENCH FORCES , ENEMY CONFINED TO SMALL AREA LONDON, October 4. French troops entered Bastia this morning. A French communique, giving this news, says the liberation of Corsica has been achieved. In the final assault, Bastia was attacked from three sides. A correspondent says the Germans may still be attempting the last stages of their evacuation from the beaches round Bastia. Another message states that the remaining Germans on the island are confined to a small peninsula.
