ESCAPED PRISONERS
REPORTED DEFEAT OF GERMANS. IN BATTLE SOUTH OF FLORENCE. (Received This Day, 10.50 a.m.) LONDON, October 3. The Algiers radio reports that Allied ships are landing food and ammunition on the Dalmatian " coast for Yugoslav patriots. The radio also stated that British planes dropped foed and arms for Italian t patriots and British and American prisoners of war resisting the Germans in North Italy. Bologna, * Vcrcn and Venice are the chief centres cf Italian resistance. According to Swiss reports, more than 1,000 escaped British prisoners feught a battle with German troops 90 miles south cf Florence and won. The British are believed to be well armed and under competentn leadership. They are living off the land, helped by sympathetic Italians.
