BOY SCOUTS
MO-KATOA GROUP BIRTHDAY GATHERING PRESENTATION OF BADGES In spite of the bad weather on Saturday night the party given to celebrate the sixth anniversary of the Mo Katoa Scoup group was a great success. Seven patrol leaders and seconds of the Eketahuna Scout Troop accepted the invitation to attend the party. The County Commissioner, Mr R. Barton, sat at the head of the table with Mr A. W. Allsop, the District Scoutmaster, Miss O. Curry the cubmaster and cubmaster Mr P. Martin from the Carterton Pack. When tea was over Mr A. W. Allsop conducted a sing-song and then acted as referee in handball games between Ekeahuna Scouts and Mo Katoa and between the Cub sixes. Present after tea were Miss D. Hubbard the district Cubmaster, St Matthews Cubmaster Miss E. Lane and the parents and friends of the Scouts and Cubs. After several items, stunts, sketches and games which included a fathers V cubs and mothers v cubs bean bag relay race, Commissioner R. Barton made the following presentations to Scouts and Cubs: Scouts: Patrol Leader W. Kerslake the Ambulance Badge and three years service star. Patrol Leader G. Curry the Second Class Badge, Seconder I. Allsworth, the Second Class and three year service star. Seconder M. Whittaker the Ambulance Badge. Alf Levick the Ambulance Badge and second year service star. Scout J. Camden promoted to Seconder and given the pocket stripe and hatbadge. The inter Patrol Shield was won by and presented to the Huia Patrol for September. Wolf Cubs: The L. T. Daniell Cup for the best six was won by the Grey six. The W. Kerslake Cup for the best all round Cub was presented to Sixer J. Turnbull. The Bradbury Shield for the best Cub sportsman was won by Sixer D. Olson. Prizes were won by Senior Sixer K. Camden for best sizer, by Sixer D. Corry for the most improved Cub, and by Cub P. Hartman for being the most well dressed and cleanest Cub. The In-ter-Six Shield was won by the Green Six for September.

Artist and Collector Proficiency Badges. Sixer J. Turnbull: One eye Open, 2nd year service star and House Orderly Badge. P. Hunter: One Year Service Star. K. Allsworth: One Eye Open. < L. Dwyer: One eye open and 2nd year House Orderly Service Star. B. Marsh: One Year Star. D. O’Connor: One Year Star. R. O’Connor: One Year Star. J. Fantham: Two Year Star, _ Collector, House Orderlv and First Aid Badges. P. Fantham: House Orderly, Toymaker and First Aid. P. Hartmann: 1 Eye Open. 1 year Service Star and Seconds Stripe. B. Voice: 1 year Service Star. Sixer D. Olson: First Aid, Toymaker. Team Player, Guide Badge. M. Keen: 1 Eye Open, 1 Year Service Star. B. Kane: 1 Eye Open, 1 Year Service Star. P. Jenkins: Toymaker Badge. R. Wilton: One Year Star. Miss O. Curry Cubmaster was made a presentation from the cubs by P.L. W. Kerslake Cub Instructor. The Cubmaster returned thanks and handed a present to W. Kerslake for helping so much and so well with the cubs. After the presentations supper was served and the birthday cake was cut by Cubmaster O. Curry and Troop Leader J. Camden. Mr Allsop and Mr Butler, the chairman of the committee, thanked those who had assisted at the gathering. The Scout and Cubs extended their hearty thanks to Mrs D. A. McMillan for making and presenting the beautiful birthday cake, to Mr Thomas for a gift of saveloys, to the W.F.C.A. for the gift of potatoes, to Mrs Braggins for the use of her stove for cooking and to all the ladies who so willingly prepared and served tea and supper.
