CLEAN SWEEP
OF ITALIAN “AUTHORITATIVE REMNANTS.” URGED BY COUNT SFORZA. NEW YORK September 3. Count Sforza disclosed that he will soon be leaving for Italy, with the permission of the State Department, and urged anti-Fascist Italians in America to follow him in order to form “a Cromwellian army” to drive out the Germans. Count Sforza, whom the “New York Times” describes as the logical leader of a Liberal Government to take command in Italy’s crisis, urged a clean sweep of the old authoritative remnants, including Marshal Badoglio 'and King Victor Emmanuel, and added that Mr Churchill must have been badly informed when he called on the Italians to rally round the King. Count Sforza was formerly in the Italian diplomatic service and finally was Ambassador to France in 1922, but he resigned on the advent of the Fascists to power He was leader of the Democratic Opposition in the Senate till the Opposition parties were suppressed in 1926.
